It's pretty incredible that 70's soul-funk-pop originators Earth Wind & Fire are still functioning as a band, and even more of a testament to them that they continue to tour today. As a live act, they haven't lost one jot of funk-laden, stuff-struttin' soul, and their musical energy onstage at the ripe old age they are is commendable. They are truly living legends of our time, boasting six Grammy awards and more nominations to boot, as well as being responsible for some of the most enduring disco classics in history, such as 'Boogie Wonderland', 'Shining Star', and the eponymous 'We Are Family'. The band also go down in history as the fist African-American group to sell out shows at New York's Madison Square Garden, and in 2008 Barack Obama invited them to perform at the White House for the first social event of his new administration. I was lucky enough to catch Earth Wind & Fire at the UK festival Bestival in 2011, and the show was a delicious slice of pop-disco soul in the sunshine, and with all and there were a lot of them! their major hits covered. There wasn't a soul in the crowd who wasn't pulling their best Saturday Night Fever moves throughout- an excellent effort by all, EWF!

” – . Their achievements are equally matched by their generosity. Over the years the band has supported various charity organizations including the Make a Wish Foundation, Race to Erase MS, the American Cancer Society, and the Human Society. In 2007, leader Philip Bailey founded Music Is Unity, which helps youth in foster care successfully transition into adulthood and provides music instruments to youth with musical aspirations but lacking the resources. Co-founder, Verdine White has led important initiatives with the Girls & Boys Club of America and opened The Verdine White Foundation in Los Angeles as a mecca to serve youth with music scholarships and other programs. In 2016, Maurice passed and his memoir, My Life with Earth, Wind & Fire was released posthumously. In 2014, Philip Bailey released a memoir Shining Star Braving the Elements of Earth, Wind & Fire. The music of Earth, Wind & Fire is more alive than ever as they continue to inspire new audiences and thrill those who have been with them from the beginning. Like the elements in their name, Earth, Wind & Fire’s music has withstood ever-changing trends in the world and shows no sign of vanishing as they continue to create joy and uplifting music that will forever reach a sacred universal atmosphere.
